Salobreña & the Costa Tropical

Location. Just 1 hour’s drive east from Malaga airport Salobreña is due south of the historic city of Granada (45 minutes), the peaks of the Sierra Nevada and the mountain villages of La Alpujarra. Located on the coast, the town is surrounded by a tropical plain where sugar cane, mangoes and custard apples are cultivated.

Climate. This stretch of coast enjoys a micro climate with more sunshine to than the Costa del Sol and warm winters as well as the hot Mediterranean summers. Here, in winter, you can ski in the Sierra Nevada in the morning and sunbathe on the coast in the afternoon.

The Town. Salobreña is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets leading up to its old castle. Tucked away in hidden corners are little bars where you can refresh yourself with a drink and tapas. At the bottom of the town is the commercial centre where you will find shops, supermarkets, banks, the town hall and civic theatre. There is a good choice of restaurants in the old town, commercial centre and by the beach. This long beach below the town stretches all the way to the port of Motril. Beside the beach is a golf course.
